Keystone View Company Copyright by The Keystone View Company Did you ever see so many little puppies together in your life? If you look very carefully you can count twelve of them. That makes a pretty large family of babies to take care of, doesn't it? Their mother has gone away for a little rest. You know mothers get nervous when they have babies to take care of all the time. The little girls are Emily and Ruth. Ruth is not much more than a baby herself. Every morning the first thing these little girls do is to go and see the family of puppies. One morning they found the puppies without any mother. They thought that was very sad, so the pretended they were the mothers. It was lots of fun. Emily asked mamma to fix them some bottles of milk for their babies, and she did. The puppies like this kind of play very much, too. They scrambled over each other and over their new mothers to get the milk. They could drink it out of a bottle just like any baby, you see. Before all the babies were fed, their real mother came back. And when she saw them drinking out of bottles she was very much puzzled at first. She walked around them several times and looked and looked. Then she wagged her tail hard, and gave a little bark, so that you could tell she was laughing. Perhaps she thought it would be nice to have Emily and Ruth for nurses for her babies all the time, so that she could hunt rats and sleep whenever she wanted to. Many of the Keystone View Cards were in boxed sets. They were used in schools for education, hence the often simple writing on the back. |
